April 25th, Liberation Day
The 10 images and the video depict some moments of the procession which, accompanied by the Torniella band, passed through the streets of Massa Marittima to celebrate April 25th. The procession left from Piazza Garibaldi and reached the Poggio Park where the Monument to the Fallen is located, a sculpture dedicated to the victims of the Niccioleta massacre carried out by the Nazi-fascists. At dawn on 13 June 1944, a group of Nazi and Fascist soldiers broke into the mining town of Niccioleta (about 8 km from Massa Marittima). Six miners were shot on the spot. Another 150 miners were taken to Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina, where another 77 miners were killed on the evening of 14 June.
