Ara Pacis Augustae

Ara Pacis Augustae

Situated in the Rome city centre, the monument known as the Ara Pacis Augustae (“Altar of Augustan Peace”) is protected by plate glass windows which, because of the reflections they generate, disturb the view from the outside at certain angles. The photographs aim to reproduce the visual confusion between the decorative elements of the monument, glimpsed through the plate glass windows, and the reflections on the same plate glass windows of external elements, such as buildings, trees and vehicles. The whole is at times further enhanced by the presence of people outside trying to peer in.
