Chelonia mydas
This gallery explores the traces left by green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) on the protected beach of Ra’s al-Hadd (Oman), the night between 21 and 22 December 2010. The turtles go to this beach to lay their eggs The images symbolize a fascinating biological cycle. Abstractly, however, they also seem to allude to some trends in contemporary art, such as Land Art. With its connotations, this art form involves modifying the appearance of the landscape through, temporary alterations. This time, however, instead of some famous artist, it is the green turtles that have drawn suggestive, ephemeral paths in the sand. The only human involvement is simply that of recording the turtles’ work.
