Mongolian collection 5/6 – Windows
My explorations of the theme of windows continued in Mongolia. Windows are seen here not as a transparent frame providing a vision – depending on the viewpoint – of external environments or internal spaces but as surfaces on which various elements “settle” (reflected profiles on the panes, objects set on the internal or external sills, details of the rooms, and various kinds of roofing). Individually or combined, these elements give rise to a ‘painterly’ kind of image, at times verging on the abstract. Moreover, there is a special kind of ‘modular’ representation of the windows in the Soviet-style buildings, in which the formal and chromatic construction of the images is accompanied by often ordinary details of daily life.
