My New Iran

My New Iran

In December 2012, I organized a brief photographic trip in Iran, setting off from Hormoz and arriving in Cham (near Yazd), fourty years since my first visit to the country (Summer 1972). Since that first visit, I then spent the following ten years taking pictures only in Iran, something which moulded my personal sensibility towards landscapes As a result, when I started to shoot in other countries, I have always been drawn to see and trace Iranian landscapes in what I saw. With time and further experiences, my photographic activity has taken a new and more complex path. The 2012 trip represents a kind of reverse trend, a “comeback” characterized by what I learned taking photos of places away from Iran. In this view, Iran has become a field for new experiments on both subject and style, just like every other country I visited.
